Ive been following the project a few years pretty much from day one, and I find the idea behind it very interesting. And technically speaking Brave is rock solid product based on modified Chromium etc...

But if looking at the way web is heading, Id say it is fighting a battle lost for three reasons

1 Paywalls/subscription based services are slowly but surely taking over advertising based "free web".

Of course not all websites will and can not switch to subscription model, but those with expenses to pay dont have much choice as theres akind of group think going on... Something about the upcoming popularity of subscription services tells the fact that names such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft are all bringing easy & secure subscription features straight to their services i.e. you are seeking answer to some some stamp related tidbit, and you see an interesting article in Google search results which is behind a paywall/subscription, you could pay/subscribe it straight from your Google account with single click. No need to enter address details, credit card details, etc...... And earlier this year Google introduced ad blocking technology to weed annoying/poorly-built ads built-in and autoenabled to its browser Chrome. And... Naturally the big names are not doing these changes for goodness of their heart, but they see business with it all.

2 And then things such as EU-GDPR are forcing websites globally and business globally to take privacy seriously.

For example setting trackers and collecting personal data without permission will become punishable as soon as May 25th this year this applies to any website which has got even a single European user - for example StampBoards and every major stamp website is affected by requirements of GDPR.... Of course nobody has got zero idea how it is going to get policed in real life, but the fear of major fines is forcing at least all "big business" to play with new rules.

3People are lazy.

I consider myself as fairly advanced geek, and Ive switched my default browser only twice in decade but I do have just about every major browser installed as checking how websites work with different browsers is part of my work. And even that one time was one time too often, LOL. And I know that regular users will not bother to switch their browser even that often unless the new browser doesnt come as default option with the machine and they cant change it back to their preferred one... For Brave to succeed and exist on the long run it would need MUCH bigger market share than current fraction of percentage in the end they are a business with goal to make money.

All this said, I still think the idea and implementation of Brave is very good one. Only the timing is wrong.
